Sierra Club Hosts Candidates Night at Library

The Framingham Sierra Club is hosting a Candidates Night, as a means to get to know the candidates for Planning Board and Selectmen, two of the most powerful boards in Framingham Town Government, tonight at 6:15 in the main Framingham Library. The town election is Tuesday, April 9. The Candidates Night will begin with refreshments and an informal time to meet the candidates starting at 6:15 p.m., followed by formal panels starting at 6:30 p.m. After the candidates opening statements there will be a Q/A session where the audience will be encouraged to submit written questions to the candidates. Ginger Esty to Withdraw From Selectmen Race; Bower & Sisitsky Unopposed

After not attending tonight's Selectmen's meeting, Esty showed up after the meeting to announce she will withdraw her papers at the town's clerk's office for re-election.

Selectman Ginger Esty will not seek re-election to the Framingham Board of Selctmen. She did not attend Tuesday night's meeting. After the meeting adjourned, she showed up with a boot on one of her feet and told her fellow Selectmen she plans to withdraw her nominations papers for re-election at the Framingham Town Clerk's office tomorrow. Esty has been a selectmen for a dozen years. Esty and Sisitsky were running for re-election and were being challenged for one of the two seats available by School Committee member Mike Bower. Bower and Sisitsky are now running unopposed for the April 9 election. There are two, 3-year seats available.

When Framingham voters go to the polls on Tuesday, April 9, they will find contested races for Selectmen and Planning Board. Tuesday, Jan. 22 was the deadline for those running for town-wide office to submit nomination papers. There are two 3-year seats on the Board of Selectmen available. Running for Selectmen are incumbents Charlie Sistisky and Ginger Esty and Framingham School Committee member Michael Bower. There are two 3-year seats on the Planning Board on the ballot. Given the lack of action in the Foley saga (hey have we clawed back that 100 thousand yet?), the existing board of Selectmen is a disgrace. They should all be voted out (or do the right thing and resign). I don't know what kind of selectman Bower will make - but I'm willing to take ANY change now.   more ›
