Scouts, High Schoolers Participate in Town Meeting Opening Ceremonies

Framingham High students sang the national anthem, members of the high school band performed Sweet Caroline and a handful of Girl Scouts were the color guard.

Newly-elected Town Moderator Teri Banerjee organized a youthful and patriotic opening ceremonies to start Town Meeting Wednesday night. Framingham Girl Scouts presented the flags. Members of the color guard were Daisy Scout Marie Scanlon and Junior Scouts Amanda Lampl, Helen Scanlon, Suzanna Sarkar and Marlena High. All were chosen as their parents are either Framingham Finance Committee members or Framingham Town Meeting members. (Watch the video of the Scouts presenting the flags.) Framingham Girl Scouts sold more than 2,000 cases of cookies during their door-to-door sales in December and January. Expect delivery starting today.

Framingham Girl Scouts sold 24,168 boxes of cookies during their door-to-door sales in December and January. Tuesday, those 2,014 cases were delivered to the Lutheran Church of Framingham. Girl Scouts will begin door-to-door delivery today, Feb. 6. If you didn't pre-order, don't fret you can still get your Thin Mint or Caramel de Lite fix, as Troops are holding booth sales through the first week in March at various locations throughout town. Saturday volunteers painted & transformed more than 60 store-front windows into winter-themed works of art as part of the 2nd Annual Winter Wonderland Festival sponsored by the Framingham Downtown Renaissance organization.

Saturday, volunteers, families, McAuliffe Charter School students, Framingham Girl Scouts and artisans were painting downtown Framingham red ... and green, blue, yellow, white, brown ... as part of the 2nd Annual Winter Wonderland Festival. Sponsored by the Framingham Downtown Renaissance organization, businesses agreed to allow volunteers, artists, families and community and school groups to paint their windows. Businesses held open houses and offered special sales and the Framingham Downtown Renaissance invited musical groups from Framingham to stroll along the sidewalks and sing holiday tunes to shoppers and volunteer painters. *** Please upload your photos from the Winter Wonderland festival.

The Framingham Girl Scouts led the crowd of the town's 21st Annual Tree Lighting ceremony in a holiday sing-along in anticipation of Santa's arrival Friday night. Radio and media personality David O'Leary, a Framingham resident, was the master of ceremonies with the Framingham Girl Scouts, who traditionally sing on the steps of the Memorial Building.But Friday night's rains moved the event indoors. It didn't dampen the Scouts spirits. Girl Scout Cookie Sales Start Friday

Thin Mints and Caramel de Lites are back, but Girl Scouts of Eastern Mass. are introducing a new cookie: Mango Cremes.

Framingham Girl Scouts will begin selling Girl Scout cookies Friday, Dec. 7. If you can't wait until they deliver cookies in 2013, you can get your Thin Mints or Caramel deLites fix, at the Girl Scout cookie booth sale at the Framingham Holiday tree lighting inside Nevins hall at the Memorial Building starting at 6 p.m. Framingham Girl Scouts will hold booth sales for the next 12 weeks. To find a local booth sale, visit www.hergirlscouts.org and click on the “cookie locator” and enter your zip code. Cookies are $4 a box. Framingham Girl Scouts are part of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts Council. The Council is selling cookies from now through March 12, 2013. 21st Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Friday, Dec. 7

Framingham Girl Scouts will lead the crowd in a holiday sing-a-long on the steps of the Memorial Building in anticipation of Santa's arrival on a Framingham fire truck.

Friday, Dec. 7 is the 21st Annual holiday tree lighting event for the Town of Framingham. The Framingham Girl Scouts will lead the crowd in a holiday sing-a-long on the steps of the Memorial Building in anticipation of Santa's arrival on a Framingham fire truck. The sing-a-long begins at 6:15 p.m. When Santa arrive with Mrs. Claus, he will push the button to light the Framingham's holiday tree, located in front of the Memorial Building. Afterwards the Scouts and the crowd are invited inside Nevins Hall for more festivities, sponsored by the Town of Framingham. Kids (and families) can have their photo taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Framingham Girl Scouts Donating Supplies to Jersey Scouts

Framingham Girl Scouts made care packages for sister Girl Scouts in New Jersey. A shipment was delivered early this month.

Framingham Girl Scouts made care packages for sister Girl Scouts in New Jersey, who were affected by Hurricane Sandy. Girl Scouts from several Troops in Framingham donated underwear, socks, hair care products and toiletries for Girl Scouts of North New Jersey Council. Girl Scout leader Shawn Granoff delivered the shipment to a church designated by the Girl Scout Council. The Framingham Girl Scouts are also working with Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore Council to help those Scouts affected by Hurricane Sandy. Troop Leader Tracy Lampl is organizing the relief efforts for Framingham Scouts. The Scouts plan to make another delivery near Thanksgiving and another closed to the holidays.

VIDEO: Paying Tribute to the Defenders of Our Freedom

The Town of Framingham held a short ceremony Sunday at Cushing Memorial Park to mark Veterans Day 2012.

The Town of Framingham held a short ceremony Sunday at Cushing Memorial Park, on what was the former Cushing General Hospital grounds, to mark Veterans Day. The Framingham Police Department Color Guard led the short procession, followed by Framingham Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Chaplain Robert Anspach gave a prayer and paid tribute to the "defenders of our freedom." Webelo Scout Nikolai Novak was selected to place the wreath on the monument marking Cushing General Hospital. Between 1944-46 more than 13,800 soliders were cared for on the grounds of the hospital in 95 buildings, built by the U.S. War Department. Later the site became Cushing State Hospital until 1991.

Girl Scouts To Collect Supplies for Veterans At 100th Anniversary Dance Tonight

Framingham Girl Scouts are holding a dance to celebrate its 100th anniversary tonight, Nov. 9; Scouts also will be collecting socks and other items for Veterans overseas.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts, the Framingham Girl Scouts are holding a dance at Nevins Hall inside the Memorial Building tonight at 7. All Girl Scouts are invited to attend, even Girl Scouts from neighboring communities. As part of the admission, Scouts will also be collecting new white socks and toiletry items for veterans overseas. Admission is $8 per Girl Scout, plus a mandatory donation to the Veterans. Payment can be made at the door. No admission after 8 p.m. Scouts have the option of bringing a dad/adult pal to the dance. Dads and adult pals are free, but must bring a donation to the Veterans. Besides clean white tube socks, other items needed for veterans include: travel size shampoo, travel size toothpaste, …

Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts held an all-day conference on careers in science technology, engineering and math for middle and high school Scouts.

Girl Scouts from all over the Commonwealth were experimenting, investigating and questioning scientific theory with the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts Council, who held an all-day conference on careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) for middle and high school Scouts. More than 150 middle and high school Scouts attended the Changing the World Through STEM: Teen Career Expo on Sunday, Oct. 28. Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts believes that meeting women immersed in the STEM disciplines and providing a variety of opportunities for exposure to STEM careers will increase interest and awareness among girls about STEM and encourage them to pursue higher education and careers in these fields.
