Flyers Softball Earns Bay State Conference Title

With a regular season record of 18-2, the Framingham High softball team captured its first the Bay State Conference since 2003.

Written by Erin Powers The Framingham High Flyers softball team wrapped up its regular season with a commanding 11-0 victory over Wellesley this week.  Junior Jess Proia pitched a two-hit shutout, her fifth of the season.  Senior catcher Gia Ferreira was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI and senior first baseman Casey Diana hit two doubles and drove in 4 runs for the Flyers.  Junior shortstop and captain Marisa Sanchez made some stellar defensive plays on her way to a 3 for 3 day at the plate. Senior captain and third baseman Sam Bell  pitched in with a 1 for 3 hitting performance.  The win against Wellesley Wednesday capped an historic season where the Flyers earned an 18-2 record and won the Bay State Conference for the first time since 2003.  In their…

Memorial Service Thursday for Former Teacher, Coach Robert Jachowicz

A memorial celebration of Robert Jachowicz's life will be held Thursday, May 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Eagles on Park Street in Framingham.

Robert Joseph Jachowicz, age 84, died peacefully Thursday, May 9, 2013 at his home in Framingham. He was the husband of 63 years to Phyllis M. (Rosicky) Jachowicz, also from Lynn. He was the son of the late Joseph and Emily (Lovely) Jachowicz. He was a graduate and standout football player at Lynn English High School and won a four-year full scholarship to the College of the Holy Cross, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. Jachowicz had an extensive, fulfilling career in Framingham as an educator, coach and artist. Following college he began teaching and coaching in the Framingham School System as an 8th grade teacher at the Framingham Middle School, now the Danforth Art Museum. He worked for more than 40 years at Framingham High …

Flyers Softball Team Currently in First Place

Framingham High softball team is scheduled to take on Walpole today, May 8 at 3:45 p.m.

UPDATE: 4 p.m. Today's game has been postponed due to the weather. *** The Framingham High Softball team is now 12-2 on the season. The Flyers are in first place in the Bay State League, after defeating Needham 4-0. This was a closely contested game through four innings with Framingham holding a 1-run lead from the first into the fourth inning. Both offenses faced pitchers who were hitting their spots and forcing batters into pop flys and grounders for the first few innings of this one. Framingham finally opened things up in the top of the fifth inning sending 6 batters to the plate and getting 3 runs across home plate to open their lead to 4-0. Needham started off their six inning with a HBP baserunner and a walk but couldn't take …

Newsweek Top-Rated School List Leaves Off All of Framingham's High Schools

The magazine's 2013 rankings came out Monday.

Newsweek has ranked the high schools nationally, but the criteria the magazine used leaves Framingham High School, Marian High School and Keefe Technical Regional High School, all based in Framingham, off of the list. For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools in the U.S., with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013. You can see the details about the ranking, and every other ranked high school by clicking on the markers in the interactive map above. The survey scores were then weighted and calculated using several criteria including on-time graduation and college acceptance rates. Exploring Education

Framingham High International Club Students Teach Dunning Third Graders

Eight Framingham High School International Club students taught words, played games, and read fairy tales from the Haitian, Hispanic, and Asian cultures to Dunning Elementary third graders.

Third grade students at Dunning Elementary School had a special treat last month. Each third grade class was visited by members of the Framingham High School International Club on April 24. The students presented information of various countries and cultures from around the world.   There were eight students, who joined the students and they taught words, played games, and read fairy tales from the Haitian, Hispanic, and Asian cultures, said  Dunning Elementary Principal Kimberly Taylor. "It was a wonderful experience for the third grades to have," said Taylor.

Flyers Sprint and Leap Past Braintree High 91-45

Kevin Welch, Tiago Torres, Luke Halberstadt and the 4X100 relay team qualified for states in the victory.

The Framingham High boys track team defeated Braintree High School 91-45 this week. This was "one of the best days I've ever had watching our young and evolving talented program," said Head Coach Chris Collins. "They were simply amazing while beating Braintree High." The Flyers are now 2-3 on the season. The next meet is the Weston Twilight Meet tomorrow, May 4 in Weston. The  Flyers boys will be sending 10 athletes to compete, including "senior distance star Brian Gilligan," said Collins. In Tuesday's meet, "freshman Kevin Scranton pulled the Flyers from behind to win the 4x400 relay," said Collins Collins estimated "close to 80% of our team set personal best marks" in Tuesday's meet.   Highlights from the Tuesday meet against Braintree …

Scouts, High Schoolers Participate in Town Meeting Opening Ceremonies

Framingham High students sang the national anthem, members of the high school band performed Sweet Caroline and a handful of Girl Scouts were the color guard.

Newly-elected Town Moderator Teri Banerjee organized a youthful and patriotic opening ceremonies to start Town Meeting Wednesday night. Framingham Girl Scouts presented the flags. Members of the color guard were Daisy Scout Marie Scanlon and Junior Scouts Amanda Lampl, Helen Scanlon, Suzanna Sarkar and Marlena High. All were chosen as their parents are either Framingham Finance Committee members or Framingham Town Meeting members. (Watch the video of the Scouts presenting the flags.) Last year, Framingham was awarded a state grant from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners of $4.2 million for the project.
