Framingham wrestlers earned five medals over the two-day tournament last week at Framingham High.

Five Framingham High wrestlers earned medals including three for first place in the 126, 152 & 220 weight classes; one for second place in the 195; and one for third place in the 170.   In the team standings, Framingham High placed third overall in the 2-day tournament at Framingham High School last week. Unfortunately, during the tourney the Flyers lost wrestler Brian Busa in the early rounds to a dislocated elbow. Let’s wish him a speedy recovery! Flyers Win Holiday Wrestling Tournament

Framingham High wrestling team won the overall team title at the annual Holiday Wrestling Tournament.

The annual Holiday Wrestling Tournament was hosted by Wayland High School on Saturday and the Framingham High School team competed and won the title of overall team Champion!   Congratulations Flyers! Thanks to Photography in Motion for the photo!

With one state championship and a runner-up honor in hand, Gil Sa looks for more titles in the New England wrestling tournament.

Gil Sa Class: Junior Age: 17 High School: Framingham High Sport: Wrestling Weight class: 130-pound Year first started competing: Freshman Career highlight: Winning Division 1 state title two weeks ago. Favorite athlete: Ed Ruth, Penn State freshman wrestler; as a middle school football player Sa admired Walter Payton. Gil Sa didn’t have a burning desire to be a wrestler when he was young. It took a bit of serendipity to get him interested in the sport and a great deal of hard work for him to become a state Division 1 champion and the No. 2 wrestler in his weight class in all of Massachusetts. Three Teams Make State Playoffs

Keefe Tech boys basketball, Marian boys hockey and Framingham girls hockey will all be playing state tounament games this week.

Three Framingham teams, one from each of the three high schools in town, will be heading into state tournament play this week. Additionally, three Framingham High wrestlers will be competing in the All New England Championships in New Haven Friday and Saturday. WRESTLING: Framingham’s Sa places second in All-State tournament The Flyers’ Gil Sa lost by a 10-3 decision to Needham’s James Carroll in the finals of the 130-pound class during the All-State tourney at Salem High on Saturday. “I was a little off my game,” said Sa. “I was more cautious than normal and I didn’t take any risks. Framingham Wrestler Wins State Title

In track, Ben Groleau finished seventh in the 1,000 with a time of 2:34.87 in the Division 1 Championship. . Sarah Bowhill got caught in traffic and ran a 5:17. Both Bowhill and Groleau will compete in the All-State meet this Saturday at the Reggie Lewis

Framingham came home from the Division 1 wrestling tournament with a state championship to highlight last week’s sports schedule as the winter season begins to wind down. Two Framingham runners advanced to the All-meet this weekend. On the ice, the Flyers’ boys hockey team needs two wins in its final two games this week in order to qualify for the state playoffs. WRESTLING: Sa dominates to win state title Gil Sa quickly built a lead in his 130-pound final match against St. John’s Prep’s Mike Mayo and remained in control to record a 9-1 major decision and win the state Division 1 individual title Saturday at Methuen High School. 7 Wrestlers To Compete at States

Flyer Sarah Bowhill won the mile in 5:16.48 to become Bay State Conference championm while Ben Groleau became the Bay State League champion in the 1,000, with his winning performance of 2 minutes, 38.45 seconds.

WRESTLING: Flyers send 7 to states Framingham will have seven wrestlers in the Division I state tournament this Saturday, Feb. 19 at Methuen High. The seven qualified for the tournament after their performances at the Division 1 Central Sectional tournament in Lexington. Three Framingham wrestlers -- Gil Sa (130 pounds), Robert Coukos (145) and Mike Patterson (189) -- became individual champions in the sectionals and will lead the Framingham wrestlers in the Division I tournament. Framingham will have 7 wrestlers in the state tournament, the most for any team. Framingham dropped its final dual meet of the season to Weymouth, 46-15, on Wednesday. Weekly Sports Wrap-Up

Flyers Picked Up 7 Wins

Wrestlers, swimmers and skaters each recorded two wins last week.

Despite a jumbled schedule due toa  snow storm, Framingham High boys and girls varsity teams managed seven wins, one tie and eight losses last week. The Flyers were led by the boys hockey team, the boys swim team and the wrestling squad with two wins each. The Flyer wrestlers also absorbed three dual meet losses, the first setbacks for Framingham’s wrestlers this season.   HOCKEY: Boys skate to two wins Framingham made it two wins in a week when the Flyers beat Bay State Conference foe Milton 6-3 Saturday night, at Loring Arena. It was the third win in a row for the Flyers and pushed their record to 5-6-1 overall, 4-4 in the BSC. “This was a good team effort and a quality win,” said Framingham coach Paul Spear. Flyer Wrestlers Remain Undefeated

Boys basketball and girls gymnastics teams looking for their first wins of the season this week.

Framingham’s wrestling squad remained undefeated by picking up four wins last week, while the boys hockey team split its two games. Wrestlers win quad meet Six Framingham wrestlers went unbeaten Saturday (Jan. 8) with three wins each in a quad meet at Reading. Framingham is 6-0 on the year and will meet Needham on Wednesday (Jan. 12) at 6:30 p.m. at Framingham High, and then travel to the Eastern States Classic in Loch Sheldrake N.Y. Friday and Saturday.  “It was great to get the three wins,” said Framingham coach Jon Kanavich. “We had some guys show progress. Flyers Finish Second in Wrestling Tournament

Framingham wrestlers hold onto and finish in second place in the Framingham Holiday Wrestling Tournament.

Gil Sa scored 30 points while three teammates scored 20 points or more to lead Framingham to a second place finish in the Framingham Holiday Tournament, which wrapped up last night at Framingham High. Framingham totaled 183 points as a team to first place Methuen's 222 and held off strong challenges from Concord (N.H.) which scored 173.5 points to finish third and Milford, 173 points good for fourth place. "I'm pleased," said Framingham coach Jon Kanavich hours after the awards were handed out and the team's second place finish had time to settle in. "In a 20-team field, to place where we did is great." Framingham was second behind Methuen after the first day of the tournament on Wednesday. This is the third consecutive year the Flyers …

5 Things You Need To Know Today

Dec. 30: Donate Blood Today

Today is the start of a four-day warm-up. Temperatures may hit 40 degrees today. Forecasters have it possible hitting 45 on New Year's Day.

1. Donate blood. The Red Cross says it is in short supply this holiday season. Plymouth Church is hosting a blood drive today from 2 to 7 p.m. 2. Matches continues today at Framingham High as part of the two-day Framingham Holiday Wrestling Tournament. Today's matches start at 9:30 a.m. with finals scheduled at 3:30 p.m. 3.
