DREAM BIG - READ, the Framingham libraries summer reading program kicks off at 10 a.m.

Our daily column, 5 Things You Need to Know Today, will help you to get your day started and offer you some fodder for water cooler conversation. 1. DREAM BIG - READ, the Framingham libraries summer reading program kicks off today at 10 a.m. While signups begin at both libraries today there is a Barn Babies baby animal program at the McAuliffe branch library this morning from 10 a.m. to noon. Throughout the summer, the library will offer special programming on Wednesdays, along with its popular  guessing jar and trivia contests with prizes. Keep track of your reading over the summer and win a prize and get a special t-shirt just for participating in the summer reading program.  2. Town Manager Julian Suso was the guest scooper at the annual ice cream social and movie to end the summer reading program for kids at the main Framingham Library on Wednesday. Suso comes every year to scoop ice cream for the children. This year more than 1,700 children signed up for the summer reading program at the two library branches. More than 150 children attended the ice cream social followed by a free screening of Gnomeo & Juliet. Framingham Patch was proud to be a sponsor of the summer reading program along with Framingham Co-operative Bank and Friends of the Framingham Library.

VIDEO: Energetic, Engaging Palentologist Kicked Off Summer Reading Program

Palentologist Paulette M. Morin mesmerized a room full of children at Framingham Library's first weekly Summer Reading Program event. Weekly One World, Many Stories Summer Reading Program events continue every Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Palentologist Paulette M. Morin, armed with scores of fossils and several songs, completely engaged a room full of children, including scores of children from the Framingham clubhouse of the Boys & Girl Club of MetroWest, at Framingham Library's first weekly Summer Reading Program event last week. Weekly One World, Many Stories Summer Reading Program events continue every Wednesday at 3 p.m. Some programs require pre-registration, including this week's program with the Danforth Museum School. All programs are free. One World, Many Stories Summer Reading Program is sponsored by Framingham Co-operative Bank, Framingham Patch and the Friends of the Framingham Library.

Summer Reading: Why Should The Kids Have All the Fun?

The Framingham Public Library has an adult summer reading program. For each book read, adults enter to win a Nook ebook.

Adults, ages 18 and older, are invited to participate in the Framingham Public Library adult summer reading rrogram. This year's theme is One World, Many Stories. To participate, submit a registration form to the circulation desk of the Main Library or the McAuliffe branch. Participants will receive a summer reading t-shirt, while supplies last! Read a book of your choice. For each book you read, enter a raffle ticket to win a Nook ebook reader! Entries will be accepted through Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 9 p.m. Increase your chances to win by sending us a photo of yourself in your summer reading t-shirt on your summer vacation, or write a book review(s) of a book(s) you have read.
