Framingham School Administration: "Accommodating between 760-800 kindergarten children for the third year in a row has required some creativity and flexibility, but we are pleased to report every kindergarten student has an assignment for September."
To deal with 800 kindergarten students in the fall, Framingham Public Schools plans to override the Framingham School Committee recommended class size policy for kindergarten students of 19-22 students and place 23 kindergarten students in each classroom for the Class of 2026. And even with the increase of one student per class, the school district doesn't have enough classroom space in its 8 elementary schools and has made the decision to house two kindergarten classes at the former Juniper Hill Elementary School, now B.L.O.C.K.S Preschool. One of Framingham's elementary school principals sent out an alert to parents that there was a report of a registered sex offender near the school.
Updated: With information from Framingham Police *** Hemenway Elementary School Principal Lucia Laguarda sent out an alert to parents this afternoon that there was a report of an "individual that was suspected of being a registered sex offender waiting at the bench located between the Heritage House and Hemenway School." The principal told parents that the "location is a public bus stop and it is within the legal distance of the school, if in fact it is this individual." The incoming kindergarten class for Framingham Public Schools is already at more than 800 students; kindergarten school assignments will be mailed this week.
For the fourth year in a row, kindergarten enrollment is on the rise. The incoming Framingham Public Schools kindergarten class - the Class of 2026 - already has 805 registered students. Last year's kindergarten class (Class of 2025) had 800 students registered in the spring, but as of Oct. 1 there were 782 students, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). The kindergarten class of 2024 had 770 students; there are now 778 first graders, according to the DESE. The class of 2023 had 738 kindergarten students at this time; and now there are 698 second graders, according to the DESE. In comparison, the class of 2013 has 492 students and the current 8th grade class enrollment is at 586 students. …

Finalists for the principal position at Fuller Middle School are now down to just one candidate as the other finalist has accepted a position in Newton.
Parents are invited tonight (April 24) to meet the lone finalist for the Fuller Middle School Principal position at 7 in the school's library. The lone finalist to replace former Fuller Middle Principal Juan Rodriguez, is Sharon Seyller. Seyller is in her third year as an Assistant Principal at the Fowler Middle School in Maynard. She also served three years as a Vice Principal/Interim Principal at Scituate Middle School. Seyller has more than 15 years of guidance counselor experience in New Hampshire and Massachusetts public schools. She spent the day in Framingham Tuesday, said Human Resources Director Paula Ceglowski. It is unknown if Dr. Scott will name Seyller as the new principal, or if he will decide to hold a second principal …

As the House wrapped up its first day of budget debate, Framingham received an additional $937,110 in school funding as Framingham representatives Chris Walsh, Tom Sannicandro, and Tom Conroy joined colleagues in passing an amendment boosting aid for local schools. The additional funding means Framingham would receive $30,436,960 in school funding in fiscal year 2014, up from $28,083,629 last year. “While working together as a Framingham delegation we were able to give a much needed increase in education funding to the district.” Rep. Framingham Patch has learned that the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights will look into reports that Framingham High violated Title IX when responding to reports of two sexual assaults in the school last spring.

Superintendent of Schools Stacy Scott announced two finalists Wednesday afternoon for both the Fuller Middle School and Wilson Elementary School principal positions. Framingham will now be looking to hire two middle school principals by the fall, as one of the town's middle school principals announced today she is leaving at the end of the year.
Cameron Middle School Principal Judith Kelley announced to staff and to parents she would be leaving after 10 years. The decision came as a surprise to many parents. Thanks to the parents who forwarded the announcement to Framingham Patch. Kelley did not give a reason for why she is leaving in here email to staff or to parents. More than 1,000 area residents viewed presentations from Framingham's young students on a wide range of problems and ideas.
Answering questions such as "how does an airplane work" and "why is diabetes to hard to cure," 300 Framingham Elementary and Middle School students presented projects at the town's 15th annual iNight on Monday. The event had multiple goals for its participants including providing real-world experience and helping students meet those with similar interests, Diane Modest, the event's director, said. Students investigated questions of their choice before Monday's iNight and presented the results to more than 1,000 attendees.

That's great to hear.... hopefully more people will speak out positively about Brophy to continue to make it a great place to send children without the negative stigma of being "stuck there"! And honestly, low elementary test scores mean NOTHING in the grand scheme of things!
