Newtown Dad 'Proud To Be A Flyer'

A Scroll of Support From Framingham High students, staff and teachers is proudly displayed at Newtown High School.

In 1983, David J. Burke graduated from Framingham South High School. Twenty-nine years later, Burked emailed Framingham High Principal Michael Welch to say he is "proud to be a Flyer." Burke, his wife and his daughter, 8, today live in Sandy Hook, Connecticut. On Christmas Eve, the couple attended their daughter's Christmas pageant at Newtown High School. Burke said displayed over the trophy case at the entrance of the Connecticut High School, in the same community where 20 students and 6 adults were killed on Dec. 14, was a banner from Framingham High School students. Before students, staff and teachers at Framingham High went on holiday break, they created a "Scroll of Support" for the students of Newtown High School, where elementary …

Middle School Planning: Renovate Fuller $40M; Move to Farley $4M [Video]

But the middle school planning issue is more than just a financial one; there is rising enrollments to factor into the equation along with what Mass Bay Community College wants to do with its Framingham campus.

School leadership would like to close Fuller Middle and move into the former Farley Middle School, but much of the Framingham Public School's long-range plan lies on what Massachusetts Bay Community College's long-term plans for its Framingham campus. Saturday morning, school leaders, Town Meeting members, Finance Committee members and various members of other town committees toured the two schools, located next door to each other on Flagg Drive, across the street from McCarthy Elementary School. Framingham Public Schools Business Manager Ed Gotgart in his presentation said Mass Bay Community College's 10-year lease ends in August 2013, but the new president of the college has indicated he would like to extend the lease to 2014, and maybe …

I would have liked to tour the buildings, but had conflicts. Lots of parents have things lined up on Saturday mornings. I'm wondering why Mass Bay's needs trump those of Framingham middle schoolers. If Farlay is the better building, why don't we just take it back when Mass Bay's lease expires?   more ›

VIDEO: Framingham North, Framingham South and Framingham High Celebrated

Framingham High celebrated the 20th anniversary of the merger of Framingham North and Framingham South with the unveiling of a 40-foot historical timeline of Framingham Public Schools and room filled with memorabilia and yearbooks to view.

In Nov. 2010, Framingham High School Principal Michael Welch comes up with a few ideas on how to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the merger of Framingham North and Framingham South. His wife Karolyn and Meryl Hickey agree to take on the project. While conducting researching at the Framingham History Center, the two discovered that Roni Cronin had already produced a television show on the history of the Framingham Public Schools. The two then met with Cronin, who was a 1959 graduate of Framingham High and taught at the former Juniper Hill Elementary School for 37 years. based on what they had learned, the 20th Merger Committee agreed to raise funds and install a historical timeline of the Framingham Public Schools at the high school. Share Your Memories of Framingham North and Framingham South

As Framingham High gets set to mark the 20th anniversary of the merger of the two schools on Nov. 26, Patch writer Kristen Nason recalls her first varsity softball homerun as a Flyer against the Framingham North Spartans.

As my son prepares to graduate from Framingham High School, the town is preparing to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the merger of North and South. His high school memories as a Flyer will be those of a student attending a unified high school. No North vs. South like his mother experienced. Just Framingham High, one town under the same roof, unified. His friendships are scattered all across town, every quadrant (just ask my odometer), not just south of route 9, as the majority of mine were. If you could go back 26 years and ask me - a Framingham South, three-sport athlete, what I thought of a merged high school, I would've told you "It's a bad idea, those Spartans are ... well, the enemy. They are our rivals! Why would we want to join, …

Donna,I spent lots of time in the art department too. Loved the Jachowiz/Ritvall (sp?) team. I had another great art teacher, Mr. White, but we lost him mid-year when he died of a heart attack. I remember they announced it over the p.a.,that was such a hard thing to deal with. SO glad they did away with the ugly gym suits before I got there!   more ›

How about a Spartan's uniform from the 1960s? or a Framingham South or Framingham North theatre program or sports tickets from the 1970s? On Saturday, Nov. 26 from 3 to 5 p.m. Framingham High will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the merger of Framingham North and Framingham South high schools, with the unveiling of a history of the Framingham Public Schools timeline from 1852 to 2011.
