UPDATED: Superintendent on Lack of Teacher Contract: 'I Know There is Frustration'

As teachers have been wearing red shirts to publicly state they are without a contract, Framingham Superintendent of Schools addressed the lack of a contract and talked about negotiations at Tuesday night's School Committee meeting.

UPDATED at 10 a.m.- Added quotes from the Teachers Association President *** Framingham teachers, on certain days, have been wearing red shirts as a sign of solidarity while teaching. Currently, the Framingham Public Schools teachers are working without a contract. The current one-year contract expired in August. Negotiations began earlier this year with the School Committee and then Superintendent of Schools Steven Hiersche. In the past two weeks, emails have been circulating among parents about the contract. One email encourages parents to attend a December meeting in support of the teachers. Hiersche's Last School Committee Meeting

School Committee Vice Chair Beverly Hugo thanked Hiersche for the "monumental task leading the districk during the recession years."

The Framingham School Committee said goodbye, early this morning, to Superintendent of Schools Steven Hiersche, who will leave Framingham after three years on June 29. Hiersche announced in August 2011, he would leave at the end of his contract. Hiersche attended his last School Committee meeting - one that started on Tuesday, June 19 and ended on Wednesday, June 20. Hiersche joked he had a superintendent's report to give but didn't want to give it at midnight, so he would email his final report to committee members. Two of the four finalists for the interim Norton Superintendent of Schools have ties to Framingham; all four were interviewed Wednesday night.

Two of the four finalists for the interim Norton Superintendent of Schools have ties to Framingham; all four were interviewed Wednesday night. Though no decisions were made after the Norton School Committee interviewed Steven Hiersche, Christopher Martes, Michael Malone and David Cressy Wednesday night, they plan to have one by Monday. The contract for current superintendent Dr. Patricia Ansay is up Aug. 28, so the Committee hopes to have an interim in place as soon as possible. For the past three years Hiersche has been superintendent for Framingham Public Schools. He spent six years as superintendent in Plymouth and five more in Watertown. Framingham's new superintendent of schools Stacy Scott attended his first big event in town - the 20th Annual Salute to Framingham.

Framingham's new superintendent of schools Stacy Scott talked with school and community leaders and met with teachers and staff at Thursday night's 20th Annual Salute to Framingham. He also heard about the exceptional students and special staff in the Framingham Public School system. Scott, who is the Dracut Superintendent of Schools, was hired unanimously by the School Committee earlier this year. He will start July 1 at a salary of $200,000. The 15-member Screening Committee will begin interviewing candidates for Framingham Superintendent of Schools Saturday, Jan. 7.

The 15-member screening committee appointed to review applicants and identified finalists for the new Framingham superintendent of schools will begin interviewing candidates Saturday, Jan. 7. Superintendent of Schools Steven Hiersche is leaving in June at the end of his contract. The first interviews will be conducted at Cameron Middle School on Jan. 7 and Jan. 9. If the committee decides if needs to interview a total of 8-10 candidates, a third session has been scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 12 at Potter Road Elementary. All interviews are closed to the public. Wilson Elementary To Hire An Assistant Principal

Superintendent of Schools told the School Committee last week hiring an assistant principal at Wilson Elemetary would be a revenue-neutral position, at just $3,000 more.

Wilson Elementary principal made his case last week for an assistant principal before the Framingham School Committee. Superintendent of Schools Steven Hiersche and Principal Robin Welch have the final say on the newly-created position, with building-based budgets, not the Framingham School Committee. Some School Committee members objected to the creation of the position, but overall the majority agreed with the plan as the Superintendent said the position would be revenue-neutral, at just $3,000 more. School Committee member Richard Finlay said creating the new position "sends a bad message to the town." The position is revenue neutral as the Wilson Principal is asking to hire an assistant principal, as opposed to replacing his literacy specialist. He said at the School Committee meeting he could hire an assistant principal who had a literacy speciality. Superintendent Search Process: Parents Asked to Complete Online Survey

Parents wiill be asked to fill out an online survey as part of the School Committee's process to hire a new superintendent of schools. A select few parents will be asked to participate in focus groups, as part of the process.

Framingham School Committee announced parents will be able to give input into the hiring of a new superintendent of schools, via an online survey. The survey is expected to be posted in English, Spanish and Portuguese on the school district's website today: www.framingham.k12.ma.us School Committee member Adam Blumer, who is part of a School Committee subcomittee, said there will be 9 focus groups, as part of the search process. The focus groups will be closed to the public, but Blumer said a summary of the groups will be posted for the public, afterwards. Assistant Superintendent of Schools Leaving for Nantucket

Assistant Superintendent of School Christine Tyrie, who was also the director of curriculum and devlopment, will be leaving Framingham for Nantucket.
