Framingham Proposing 4, Not 3, Weeks of Vacation in 2013-14 School Year

Proposed Framingham Schools calendar reduces early release days at elementary level, increase early release days at middle school level, creates 2 night time parent-teacher conferences and schedules the first day of school on August 28.

Framingham Public School students may get four weeks of vacation next year instead of three, with the proposed 2013-14 school calendar. The calendar is still in draft form and will need a vote by the Framingham School Committee before it is finalized. With Christmas 2013 falling on a Wednesday, Framingham Educational Operations Director Sonia Diaz suggested schools close on Friday, Dec. 20 and not re-open until Monday, Jan. 6 2014, a 2-week break. School Committee member Beverly Hugo favored the two-week break saying it would allow for "incredible family time." School Committee member Michael Bower said closing the schools for that two-week period, in the heart of winter, could help the school district save money in fuel costs. The …

All four candidates vying for the two Framingham Planning Board seats will be in attendance, as well as many of the unopposed town-wide candidates.

Parents Asked Opinion of Early Release Days in TWPTO Survey

Deadline to provide feedback on the early release Thursday parent-teacher conferences is Feb. 15.

Town-wide PTO is asking parents take a survey to provide feedback to the Framingham Public School District on the number of early release Thursdays for parent-teacher conferences. At a recent PTO presidents meeting the future of Parent/Teacher early release day conferences was discussed. As the school district moves forward they would appreciate some parental feedback regarding these days, said TWPTO President Kim Comatas. Incumbent Planning Board candidate Tom Mahoney is the one name on the ballot. Stephanie Mercandetti and Ned Price are both running write-in campaigns for the two Planning Board seats.

On Tuesday, Framingham voters will head to the polls. One of the races is for the Framingham Planning Board. There are two seats available. Incumbent Tom Mahoney is the only name on the ballot. Stephanie Mercandetti and Ned Price are both running write-in campaigns for a seat. Voters may only vote for two candidates. Earlier this month, the Framingham Town-Wide PTO held a candidates forum. Candidates Forum: Superintendent Goals, Schools Needs Among Topics [VIDEO]

Incumbent School Committee members Beverly Hugo and Andy Limeri as well as School Committee candidates Heather Connolly and Don Taggart presented why they should be elected on April 3 at a forum hosted by the Framingham Town-Wide PTO.

Rebuilding the schools, inequitity within the elementary and middle schools, busing, school choice and the tax rate were among the topics discussed by the two candidates seeking to become Framingham's newest School Committee member, at a forum hosted by the Framingham Town-Wide PTO Monday night. Incumbent School Committee members Beverly Hugo and Andy Limeri, as well as School Committee candidates Heather Connolly and Don Taggart presented why they should be elected on April 3, at the forum at Framingham High. Hugo and Limeri are running unopposed for two, three-year seats on the Framingham School Committee. Framingham's Town-wide PTO will host a candidates forum Monday, March 12 in anticipation of the town election on April 3.

The Framingham Town-wide PTO will host a Candidates Forum on Monday, March 12 at Framingham High's small auditorium (room H100) from 7-9 p.m. The forum will have School Committee incumbents Beverly Hugo and Andy Limeri and the two candidates Heather Connolly and Don Taggart vying for a one-year seat on the School Committee. (The seat became available when Rchard Finlay resigned.) Also at the forum, the TWPTO will host the candidates in the Planning Board race, which has two, 3-year open seats and only one candidate officially on the ballot.
