Newton Chamber President Excited for "Challenge" of Framingham Job

Bob Halpin said he and Framingham officials are still working out contract details, but that he hopes to start the new position sometime in June.

After almost a year at the helm of the Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce, Bob Halpin says he's ready for the "tremendous challenge" ahead of him as Framingham Town Manager.  The Framingham Board of Selectmen unanimously decided Thursday night to offer the town manager job to Halpin, who was one of three candidates up for the position.  "I think I bring a unique set of skills [to the job]," Halpin told Newton Patch "I'm looking forward to engaging with the community." Halpin, a Concord resident, has more than 25 years of experience in local government and served as town manager in Westford and North Andover. The first of the Town Manager finalists are being interview tonight. Framingham Patch is live blogging. One Town Manager finalist plans to starts negotiations with Burlington to be its next Town Administrator; another finalist will have a Q&A with residents at 6, followed by a public interview with Selectmen at 7 tonight.

Tonight,the public is invited to a Q&A session with  Framingham Town Manager finalist Robert Halpin Tin the Blumer Room inside the Memorial Building. Burlington selectmen voted unanimously Monday night to offer the town administrator position to Ashland Town Manager John Petrin, who is a finalist for the Framingham town manager position. Wow, the newspaper really exposed this little problem. Petrin is PICKED for the spot in Burlington. He HAS the job. Will he take it? OR does he already KNOW that he is the pick in Framingham even though the town is going through the motions to keep the interiew process going. Burlington Could Hire One of Framingham's Town Manager Finalists

Two Framingham Town Manager candidates, Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce President Robert Halpin and Ashland Town Manager John Petrin, were named earlier this week as finalists for the Burlington Town Administrator job.

The four-person field of candidates for Town Manager may drop to three if one of the candidates accepts the Burlington Town Administrator position. Two Framingham Town Manager candidates, Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce President Robert Halpin and Ashland Town Manager John Petrin, were named earlier this week as finalists for the Burlington position. There is one other candidate under consideration in Burlington. The Burlington Board of Selectmen expects to interview the three finalists Monday and could decide on a Town Manager that night. Halpin and Petrin, along with Longmeadow Town Manager Robin Crosbie and Ronald San Angelo, a former mayor and Connecticut state representative, are scheduled to visit Framingham in the next two weeks …

Selectmen To Interview Town Manager Finalists on April 4, 5, 11 and 12

The Town Manager Search Committee wanted to present six finalists, but two candidates withdrew - one on Tuesday.

The four candidates brought forward by the search committee to fill the vacant Framingham town manager position have at least one thing in common - they all have experience as the chief administrator of a municipality. Three of the candidates are or were town managers in Massachusetts, while the fourth candidate was a town administrator in southern Connecticut. The Town Manager Search Committee actually had six candidates to present to the Board of Selectmen but two withdrew their names, one only the morning of the Selectmen’s meeting.
