Selectmen took up the Nobscot Chapel issue, including possible auction, intersection updates, and economic development opportunities.
Selectmen again took up the issue of Nobscot Chapel in their meeting Tuesday night. Stephen Cronin and Peter Tessicini of the town Safety Division spoke about traffic updates at the chapel intersection, including a different configuration of traffic signals and rounding the Southeast corner of the intersection near the site of the Chapel. The rounding of the corner will take place next spring. The Selectmen had planned to auction the chapel, but will first update the intersection. There is a cost for insuring the building of $1,560 annually, said Chief Financial Officer Mary Ellen Kelley, but no other reason to move quickly on auctioning the building. Selectman Laurie Lee said she was “quite shocked” that the chapel windows had been …

Two served well before September 11, two served within the last 10 years, and all four have vastly different perspectives on Sept. 11.
On the eve of the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, Framingham Patch asked four local veterans to reflect on what happened to our country that day and how America has changed in the intervening years. “You’re still trying to come to grips with it in the sense that your whole world turned upside down that day,” said Peter Harvell, Director of Veterans Services and Benefits for the Town of Framingham. Ten years later, the wars we are engaged in are being fought over ideologies, Harvell said. Targets are hard to pinpoint and are constantly shifting. “We’re used to finishing these things. You go to war and there’s a beginning and an end. This one seems to have no end.” But Larry Herson, a peacetime veteran who joined the Army Reserves in 1957 and…

Even though the debates are heating up in Washington, D.C., potential cuts in the federal budget could effect Framingham and its residents.
Public programs ranging from reduced school lunches to Medicare could be on the chopping block as the President and Congress attempt to bring down the national debt that has crossed $14 trillion. Within the Framingham Public School system, should the federal government default on its committments, free and reduced lunch and breakfast for qualifying students could face cuts. However as of now, the Department of Agriculture has not yet informed Framingham Public Schools of any impact. "For now, no news is good news," said Ed Gotgart, director of Business Services for the Framingham Public Schools. For veteran benefits, there are currently 517 people collecting federal benefits in Framingham. In total they recieve $502,097 per month. "These …
