The average price for unleaded gas in Massachusetts of $3.48 is still 10 cents lower than the national average.

Gas prices increased 4 cents last week, according to AAA Southern New England's weekly survey.

AAA’s Feb. 18 survey of prices in Massachusetts found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.729 per gallon, four cents higher than a week ago. Prices locally are up 31 cents over the past month. The current price is a cent below the national average for self serve unleaded of $3.73. A year ago at this time the Massachusetts average price was $3.60. The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 28 cents, from a low of $3.59 to a high of $3.87. AAA Southern New England has a location in Framingham off Route 9. AAA: Gas Prices Up 14 Cents

A year ago at this time the Massachusetts average price was $3.49.

The increase of crude oil resulted in an upward tick of 14 cents for gas prices in Massachusetts, according to AAA Southern New England, which has an office in Framingham. A Feb. 4 AAA survey of prices in the bay state found that self-serve, regular unleaded averaged at $3.59 per gallon, which is 14 cents higher than a week ago. "Prices locally are up 14 cents over the past month, but haven’t increased as quickly as they did this time last year," reads the release. "The current price is seven cents above the national average for self-serve unleaded of $3.52. A year ago at this time the Massachusetts average price was $3.49." The range in prices in AAA's survey for unleaded regular is 30 cents, from a low of $3.49 to a high of $3.79.

Area Gas Prices Continue To Tumble

New England drivers still paying well above the national average.

As the Christmas travel season approaches, drivers are on the receiving end of some good news relative to gas prices. According to AAA Southern New England, which has an office in Framingham, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas (self-serve) dropped another seven cents this past week, to $3.47. The good news is that price is 14 cents lower than a month ago. The bad news is, New England drivers are still paying roughly 13 cents higher than the national average and a full 20 cents higher than the price of gas in December 2011. According to the gas stations surveyed by AAA, prices ranged from $3.33 to $3.75 for unleaded regular self-serve.
