Framingham Man Charged With Human Trafficking in Shrewsbury

Connecticut State Police said the same Framingham man was caught escaping from a East Lyme motel with a female victim.

A Framingham man suspected of prostituting two young women from a hotel in Shrewsbury, was held on $50,000 cash bail today after he was rendited from Connecticut following an investigation by the Massachusetts State Police. On June 1, the Massachusetts State Police Special Services Section received information that Anthony Mannes, 37, had rented a room with two unidentified women, ages 18 and 20, at a motel on Route 9 in Shrewsbury. Mannes had vacated the motel room, leaving behind all his and the women’s belongings. Based on this and other information, the Massachusetts State Police Special Services Section and the Worcester District Attorney’s Office began an investigation in Mannes. Framingham Man Arrested on Human Trafficking Charges in Connecticut

Connecticut State Police said a Framingham man was caught escaping from a East Lyme motel with a female victim.

A Framingham man wanted on human trafficking charges was arrested in East Lyme Monday evening after town police tracked him down to a local motel. Anthony Maness, 37, was taken into custody as a fugitive from justice. He awaits extradition by the Massachusetts State Police and faces charges of deriving support from earnings of a prostitute and trafficking persons for sexual servitude, according to a press release from the Connecticut State Police Troop E barracks in Montville. A Massachusetts State Police special services unit contacted East Lyme police with a report that Maness was staying at an unspecified motel in town with a female victim, police said. Bill To End Child Exploitation Nears Finish Line

Child-sex laws increase penalties to pimps and clients; Spilka adds labor-protection to all children.

The state Senate this week unanimously passed legislation, including an amendment proposed by state Sen. Karen Spilka, whose district includes Framingham, that cracks down on human trafficking and forced child labor in Massachusetts. The bill establishes protection for victims and criminal penalties for forced labor and sexual servitude, Spilka’s office said in a press release. The amendment proposed by Spilka gives victims of forced labor access to the same help and services as the sexually exploited. “We will work to ensure that all children are protected,” Spilka said.
