10 Things You May Have Missed From This Week's Selectmen's Meeting

Selectmen tabled approval on NSTAR gas main projects until NSTAR is held accountable with its tree-clearing program. “[We] are going to hold this hostage,” said Selectman Dennis Giombetti.

Framingham Selectmen refused to approve gas main work on several roads until NSTAR is held accountable for its tree-cutting in town. Selectmen retroactively approved 60 feet of gas main on State Street, a project that was completed last year. The Board was unhappy that NSTAR waited a year to get approval for the gas main, while NSTAR claimed the Town of Framingham did not say they needed to get permission until now. Selectmen tabled the approval of the Maynard and Church Street gas mains as well as the Edmands Road gas main. Selectmen said they wanted to table these two projects until NSTAR is held accountable in the tree-cutting case. “[We] are going to hold this hostage,” said Selectman Dennis Giombetti. 2. 7 Things You May Have Missed at the Selectmen's Meeting

On Monday night, the Framingham Selectmen took up the Jonathan Maynard building's RFP and mold issues.

Assistant Town Manager David Wiliams noted,  “light remediation” is already included in the plan.  “They’re really parallel events, "Selectmen Dennis Giombetti said. "My preference is to get the RFPs out.”  Chairman of the Selectmen Jason Smith said he doesn’t want anyone who bids to come onto the project …

Selectmen Discuss Future of Jonathan Maynard Building

At Tuesday's meeting, Selectmen talked about whether Framingham should lease the former schoolhouse to Framingham State University.

At an unusually brief meeting Tuesday night, Framingham Selectmen spent the most time talking about the issue of the Jonathan Maynard building. Selectmen had received a letter from Henry Field and Beryl Bergen, who own an adjoining property, stating concerns about the town leasing part of the Maynard parking lot to Framingham State University. Field had been told no decision on the Maynard building would be made without neighborhood input, but later heard plans were underway to lease the former schoolhouse to the University, according to Vice Chair Charles Sisinsky.  “We need to be very careful about not making an agreement too soon with the college without hearing from the public,” Sisinsky said. Selectman Ginger Esty said it would depend…
