Million Dollar Renovations and Name Change for Framingham Restaurant

Framingham Selectmen approved the name change for the Framingham landmark restaurant, which opens in 1946.

La Cantina Restaurant is now LaCantina Italiana Ristorante. Framingham Selectmen approved the name change last week's on the 67-year old restaurant's liquor license. The name change is to clear up any confusion among consumers, said attorney Peter Barbieri. "The change is so we don't get calls asking for tacos anymore," he joked. Many Framingham residents already know LaCantina as the place to go for chicken parmigiana and of course, Fanny's Original Italian Dressing and marinara sauces. In 1946, after many years experience in the grocery and meat cutting business, Leo and Fanny Mencoboni took their life savings, bought an empty lot next door to their little one room neighborhood grocery and meat market, and with the help of many friends, …

After two unsatisfactory meals many (ten or so?) years ago, my husband and I finally went back to La Cantina the other night. I'm glad we did. The service was excellent, the scampi I ordered was cooked to perfection - not too garlicky, sauce stuck to the pasta and shrimp. My husband ordered a calimari fra diavlo (???) and said it was possibly the best calimari he had ever had. His entree was a "…   more ›

La Cantina To Help Feed Framingham Elementary Students

La Cantina Italiana Restaurant will provide financial aid for deserving families to cover elementary school lunches. Students/families will be given scholarships, if they can prove a hardship and did not qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Framingham Public Schools has a policy to never deny a child a free lunch. Because of that policy the Framingham Public Schools Food Services Department had about $40,000 in unpaid school lunch bills. La Cantina Italiana Restaurant offered to provide financial aid in the form of reimbursement to the Framingham Public Schools to cover the cost of elementary school lunches for deserving families. The long-time, popular South Framingham restaurant is owned and operated by the Mencoboni family. Last night owner Lee Mencoboni gave the Framingham School Committee a check for $5,000. Mencoboni told School Committee members he and his family wanted to give back to the community. In order to be eligible for the program, students must be registered …

Jim Rizoli CCFIILE.COM Sue...Excellent post! I was just showing how the lunch program is being abused by some people. Sad to see the middle class (if it even exist anymore) is having these problems. We should always help the business that give back. How many of us at town meeting support the Eagles Grill buy eating the food they provide at town meeting? I had a great roast chicken dinner last …   more ›
