At MetroWest Casino Forum, Lawmakers Ask Residents to Compromise

Local lawmakers asked area residents to work with developers in order to have their voices heard throughout the process of implementing a possible casino in the area.

MetroWest area residents had a chance to air concerns and have questions answered, as the construction of large resort casinos in Massachusetts hurdles toward reality, Thursday night at a forum at an elementary school in Holliston. Holliston selectman Jay Marsden urged area residents to avoid a mindset of uncompromising resistance toward a casino, saying that towns should be willing to work with developers and state officials. Massachusetts lawmakers passed legislation in November allowing for construction of resort casinos in the state. There has been talk of a proposed, casino on the border of Milford and Holliston. Isn't it interesting that the politicians make it look like it's a done deal. So instead of the public having some sort of a say...Sen. Spilka is telling people how to deal with it! Public Forum Thursday to Discuss Potential Impact Casino Could Have on MetroWest [Poll]

Would you be in favor of a casino in MetroWest? Tell us via our poll!

The Metro West Regional Collaborative, along with the Board of Selectmen from Ashland, Framingham, Holliston, Hopkinton, Medway and Natick are hosting a public forum on Thursday, Jan. 26, at 7:30 p.m. to discuss the recently passed casino gaming bill, and the impacts a casino could have on MetroWest towns. The public forum will be at Robert Adams Middle School, 323 Woodland St., in Holliston. Sen. Karen Spilka, who represents Framingham, will be on hand to discuss the new casino gambling bill. Members of Collaborative also will be in attendance. Casinos make the situation with the poor worse and bring in elements that only favor the rich. Let me explain. Those on limited incomes are going to loose here. Thus more people are going to loose their houses, get divorced, more domestic violence and more rift raft including prostitution, and high end drug users and sellers.
