Barney Frank Reportedly Told Governor He Wants To Be Interim Senator

Frank reportedly wants to stay to be part of the 'fiscal cliff' debate.

One day after leaving the U.S. Congress, former Democratic Congressman Barney Frank said he asked Gov. Deval Patrick to appoint him as the interim senator to fill John Kerry's seat. Frank made the remarks during an appearance on MSNBC this morning, Jan. 4. If appointed, Frank would fill the seat Kerry will likely vacate if he is confirmed as the next Secretary of State. Frank said he wanted to stay in politics for now because he wanted to be part of the 'fiscal cliff' debate, according to the Herald. VIDEO: Markey Will 'Seriously Consider' Run for Senate

With news that Sen. John Kerry may be tapped as Pres. Obama's nominee for Secretary of State, Markey said he will "seriously consider" making a run if the vacancy is announced.

Congressman Ed Markey, who represents Framingham, told reporters he was "seriously considering" a run for Senate, should Sen. John Kerry be tapped as President Barack Obama's nominee for secretary of state. Markey, who has an office in Framingham, made the remarks to reporters at Malden City Hall, following a press conference regarding the city's proposed minor league baseball park. "I hope that John Kerry does become secretary of state; he will be a great secretary of state," Markey said. "When that announcement is made I will seriously consider looking at ... (the seat).
