Fish McBites: Just in Time for Lent

McDonald's has rolled out its first new Happy Meal in years to coincide with Lent.

Nugget-sized Filet-o-Fish. That's the new idea McDonald's is rolling out this week just in time for Lent. The fast food giant says the Fish McBites Happy Meal comes with seven nuggets of fried fish, French fries, apple slices and a drink. According to USA Today, the rollout the the Fish McBites Happy Meal is the first of several new limited-time meal offerings. Lent is marked by many Christians in the 40-day runup to Easter. Often considered a time to practice sacrifice, many Catholics for years gave up eating meat on Fridays. According to the British newspaper The Daily Mail, McDonald's appears to be targeting more religious consumers with this new Happy Meal version of meatless dining.

McDonald’s Reveals Big Mac's 'Secret Sauce; Will You Make It at Home?

The video posted on McDonald's Canadian YouTube channel shows how the sauce and the burger can be prepared at home by the chain's executive chef.

There are some things that should stay under wraps: what your salary is, what your monthly mortgage payment is and some fast-food recipe secrets. I was amazed by a recent YouTube video that appeared online that gives viewers the opportunity to see how that “special sauce” on one of America’s all-time favorites is made. Sure we have known many of the ingredients in McDonald's famed Big Mac burger for years. Who can forget the famous jingle: Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions -- all on a sesame seed bun?  But it turns out that the special sauce and the secret recipe of the Big Mac isn't a secret any longer. The video posted on McDonald's Canadian YouTube channel shows how the burger is made.  Yep, you can …

I do make it at home occasionally, and there's nothing like nailing the combination perfectly. It's one of my decadent pleasures. For my money, the best sauce recipe is at Cooks.com. http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,1715,156190-225206,00.html. Now that all the ingredients have been revealed, I'm sure there will be improved third-party versions.   more ›

McDonalds Wants Outdoor Patio

Selectman Charlie Sisitsky said if McDonald’s wants to use the patio to serve meals outdoors, it will have to come before Selectmen for approval. Selectmen approved a license Monday night.

The McDonalds on Route 30 and Caldor Road, which is nearing completion, was granted a license by Selectmen Monday night, but the license approval came with some comment by the Board of Selectmen. The McDonalds was torned down in March. Construction began soon afterwards. McDonald's plans show an outdoor patio, but there was no mention in the application of outdoor dining. Selectman Charlie Sisitsky said if McDonald’s wants to use the patio to serve meals, it will have to come before the board for approval. The circulation of cars around the building may have to be looked at after McDonald’s starts operating, said Sisitsky. He noted that handicapped parking spaces may be blocked, if cars back up at the drive-in window. There was no seating …

5 Things You Missed From the Selectmen's Meeting

The Salvation Army will be operating its store and serving meals in downtown Framingham for the summer.

Whether the Salvation Army continues its presence in downtown Framingham and for how long appears to be an open issue. Tuesday night, the Board of Selectmen reluctantly extended the Salvation Army’s business license to August with the proviso that there will not be any further extensions. “I’ll support an extension to August, but not beyond August,” said Selectman Dennis Giombetti, who indicated the Salvation Army needs to develop a plan that will address when the organization leaves downtown and sets up shop on Route 9. Discussions with the Salvation Army to vacate all or part of the building it occupies in the center of town began in 2010. At this point, the Selectmen do not have a clear understanding of what the Salvation Army plans to …
