Nicholl, Ross Honored as 2013 Unsung Heroines

Internship Coordinator at Framingham State University and the Executive Director of the MetroWest Tourism & Visitors Bureau were named Unsung Heroines of 2013 by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women.

The Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women announced 83 Unsung Heroines of 2013, including two Framingham women. The Unsung Heroines are women who don’t always make the news, but truly make the difference. They are the women who use their time, talent, and enthusiasm to enrich the lives of others and make a difference in their neighborhoods, cities, and towns. They are mentors, volunteers, and innovators who do what needs to be done without expectations of recognition or gratitude. Representing businesses of all sizes, nonprofits, and municipalities through the region, almost 200 people gathered last week to celebrate the first anniversary of the MetroWest Tourism & Visitors Bureau and to kick off a regional branding campaign entitled “MORE MetroWest.” Most of the two-hour Thursday morning event, held at the DoubleTree Hotel in Westborough, was devoted to sharing and celebrating the qualities that make MetroWest MORE special.  In roundtable discussion, attendees were asked, “What do you like MORE about MetroWest?”  Answers ranged from “diversity of dining options” to “plentiful picknicking spots” to “handmade chocolate stores," said Bureau Executive Director Susan Nicholl. Tourism Promotion Increasing Foot Traffic to MetroWest Businesses

“Shop & Explore MetroWest" special promotions continue through Sunday, June 3.

With three days remaining for Shop & Explore MetroWest, the program has already succeeded in generating economic activity throughout the region by attracting customers to local restaurants, retailers, services, and arts & culture venues. More than 110 participating businesses are offering special discounts and deals during the 9-day Shop & Explore MetroWest, which is a program of the MetroWest Tourism & Visitors Bureau. With offerings such as a free one-week membership at a fitness facility, two-for-one admission to local museums, and half-price pizzas and steaks, Shop & Explore has generated significant buzz as well as income. Shop, Explore MetroWest and Find Deals May 26 - June 3

Launched by the MetroWest Tourism & Visitors Bureau, Shop & Explore MetroWest will offer deals & steals for residents and visitors for nine days.

Retailers, restaurants, cultural institutions and recreational areas in nineteen communities throughout the MetroWest region of Massachusetts will be holding scores of promotions and special events for visitors and local residents alike from May 26 to June 3 during a new, region-wide program, “Shop & Explore MetroWest,” launched by the MetroWest Tourism & Visitors Bureau. Already, dozens of organizations have signed on to participate. They include such locally owned businesses as Dream Dinners in Milford and Framingham, historic Longfellow’s Wayside Inn in Sudbury, and even the MetroWest YMCA in Hopkinton and Framingham, which will offer a free, one-week trial membership.
