A Route 9 restaurant in Framingham is undergoing renovations; and will re-open under a new name, with open-air dining, when weather permits.
In August 2012, Joseph Zhang purchased Chef Orient on Route 9 in Framingham. This month, Zhang announced the restaurant would undergo renovations and will re-open under the name Samba West. Zhang is also the owner of Samba Steak & Sushi on Route 9 in Framingham. Samba West, says Samba's Facebook page, will be a "Chinese, Japanese, Thai cuisine sports bar." Tuesday night, Framingham Selectmen unanimously approved the proposed renovations to the restaurant property. Selectmen (3-0) also approved an entertainment license for a DJ and karaoke for Samba West. Attorney Peter Haranas, representing Zhang, said most of the renovations were cosmetic in nature. Samba Steak & Sushi gave away $180,000 in gift cards to loyal customers, last month as part of thank you promotion. The Route 9 Framingham restaurant ran a customer appreciation promotion to thank all its customers for their patience while they were closed. Samba's closed in January when its pipes froze. It re-opened in February. The Route 9 restaurant, between Feb. 22-28 matched a customer's dinner bill with a gift card in the same amount. For example, if a customer spent $100, they received a $100 gift certificate. Spent $250, received a $250 gift certificate.

It's 4 p.m. Do you have dinner plans for Valentine's Day? Well, Samba Steak & Sushi has reopened after being forced to close, when its pipes froze. The restaurant had to close Friday, Jan. 25, when the freezing temperatures burst the sprinkler system pipes. Since then, owner Joseph Zhang has fixed and renovated the Route 9 restaurant. The restaurant has a new entrance, new bathroom and a new tile floor, according to Samba's Facebook page. Zhang installed a new sprinkler system and insulated it. And the restaurant has a new gift shop, where Samba merchandise is sold, says its Facebook page. Samba passed inspections by the Framingham building department and the board of health this week and re-opened for dinner Wednesday night.

Samba Steak & Sushi was forced to close today because "our pipes burst due to cold weather," said the restaurant's owners. The restaurant is working on repairs and is not sure when it will re-open. The owners said they will update Framingham Patch, so check back here.

Samba Steak and Sushi Restaurant was forced to close tonight, June 21 due to an explosion caused by the heat, according to owner Joseph Zhang. The heat melted some electrical wires outside the building that caused the explosion, Zhang said. Framingham Fire has already left the scene and NSTAR is at the Route 9 restaurant trying to restore power, said Zhang in a phone interview just before 7 p.m. Zhang said there was no damage to the inside of the restaurant. He said if NSTAR fixes the wires tonight, he'd like to re-open tonight. Framingham Patch will update when we learn more.
