Internship Coordinator at Framingham State University and the Executive Director of the MetroWest Tourism & Visitors Bureau were named Unsung Heroines of 2013 by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women.
The Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women announced 83 Unsung Heroines of 2013, including two Framingham women. The Unsung Heroines are women who don’t always make the news, but truly make the difference. They are the women who use their time, talent, and enthusiasm to enrich the lives of others and make a difference in their neighborhoods, cities, and towns. They are mentors, volunteers, and innovators who do what needs to be done without expectations of recognition or gratitude. In the Senate's $300 million transportation budget, Framingham is scheduled to receive $2.8 million.
The Massachusetts Senate passed legislation calling for a $100 million increase over Chapter 90 funding from last year, as part of a $300 million local transportation funding package for Fiscal Year 2014. In the budget, Framingham is scheduled to receive $2,863,194 in funding, an increase of $954,398. “Investment in our local road and bridges is essential to the lives of our residents and the economic health of our communities,” said Sen. State lawmakers told Framingham officials not to count on sizeable increases in state aid as they prepare next year's budget, but expressed optimism that state education funding at least would continue to climb. The mission of the S.A.F.E. program is to provide students with the information needed to recognize the dangers of fire, including the fire hazards that smoking-related materials pose.
Town of Framingham will receive a $7,625 grant through the Student Awareness of Fire Education (S.A.F.E.) Program, to help educate students about fire prevention and safety.
