Severe Thunderstorms Could Roll in This Afternoon

The National Weather Service says severe thundestorms could happen in Framingham through 10 p.m. tonight, Aug. 1.

The National Weather Service is warning residents of Massachusetts, including Framingham, to be on the lookout for severe weather later today. Warm temperatures and muggy conditions may stir up strong thunderstorms between 2 and 8 p.m., today. These storms are expected to be accompanied by hail and strong wind. The high today should be near 90 degrees, and humidity levels are expected to rise throughout the afternoon. These storms should dissipate after sunset, when the heating of the sun is no longer in effect. There is also a weaker threat for severe storms on Tuesday.

Severe Thunderstorm, Winds up to 60mph

Hail, strong winds being reported in line of storms heading toward Framingham. Wind gusts could reach 50-60 miles per hour.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Middlesex County, including Framingham. At 4:24 p.m., the National Weather Service reported Doppler radar indicated a line of severe storms capable of producing quarter-size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. These storms are moving east at 50 mph. A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 8 p.m.

UPDATED: Tornado Warning Issued for Framingham Until 6:30 p.m.

There is a chance of tornadoes, hail of up to two inches in diameter, thunderstorms, wind gusts up to 70 mph and lightning in Framingham.

UPDATED: 6:45 p.m. - it appears that the major storms that caused major damage in Springfield and Westfield passed just south of Framingham, as it headed southeast. UPDATED 6:11 p.m. - sky just opened up oin South Framingham. Downpouring now. UPDATED at 6 p.m. Tornado warning extended until 6:30 p.m. At this point lots of thunder and lightning in South Framingham. No winds. No hail. No heavy rains. Many cancellations of events tonight. Flyers boys lacrosse rescheduled until tomorrow. Fuller concert at 7 p.m. tonight was cancelled. UPDATED at 5:05 p.m. Tornado warning issued for Framingham until 5:45 p.m.  Severe storm - very large - is expected to hit Framingham about 6 p.m. Winds are expected to be more than 50 mph. Wow! Thanks for the update. BTW, we flew around the storm, leaving Boston and turning North and then West. It was enormous. The plane never got above it and it took a half out to get out from under the broad plume of clouds at its top. I've never seen one so big.   more ›
