TJX Deal Approved

The retail company will stay in Framingham.

Submitted by Town Manager Robert Halpin's office: A deal between TJX and the town of Framingham that could bring 225 new full-time jobs to Framingham was given the green light by the Massachusetts Economic Assistance Coordinating Council on Tuesday. The deal makes it possible for TJX to purchase the Framingham property and invest in a major renovation. Officials representing the Town of Framingham and TJX Companies, Inc. and Framingham’s state legislative delegation successfully made the case before the Massachusetts Economic Assistance Coordinating Council early Monday morning for approval of a variety of local and state tax incentives that support TJX’s decision to expand its headquarters in Framingham. Selectmen, TJX Agree to 20-Year Agreement to Keep World HQ in Framingham

The agreement will need to be approved by a Special Town Meeting on May 22.

Framingham Selectmen have reached a tentative 20-year tax finance agreement that would keep the TJX corporate headquarters at 770 Cochituate Rd. In making the announcement tonight, Selectmen called for a Special Town meeting on May 22 to seek Town meeting approval of the agreement. The agreement calls for TJX to maintain 1,600 permanent jobs and create 225 new jobs over the new several years. In addition, $143 million of the new investments will be made for on site expansion, renovations to the existing buildings and acquisition costs. Just to clarify. Taxes shouldn't be a negotiated thing. They are what they are. How much incentive is a small business getting to stay in Framingham? Set the tax rate where it needs to be and let them choose to come or not. No sweetheart deals. Best way to make everything stay on the up and up is to make sure no one can even look like they are benefiting from deals like this personally. Big …   more ›

TJX 3rd-quarter Net Income Rises 9 Percent

TJX companies, headquartered in framingham, said Tuesdayits third-quarter net income rose 9 percent, as consumers continued to look for bargains at its off-price stores, including Marshalls and T.J. Maxx.
