Walsh, Cameron Capture Gold and Fuller Takes Silver in Drama Festival

All three Framingham public middle schools competed in the 2013 Massachusetts Middle School Drama Festival over the weekend.

All three Framingham public middle schools competed in the 2013 Massachusetts Middle School Drama Festival over the weekend. About three dozen middle schools from Massachusetts competed Saturday and Sunday in the festival sponsored by the Massachusetts Educational Theatre Guild. On Saturday Walsh Middle School hosted six schools. Walsh and Cameron Middle School both earned a Gold award during festival. Walsh performed I Never Saw A Butterfly. Cameron performed the Seussification of Romeo and Juliet. On Sunday, Fuller Middle School competed at Dover-Sherborn Middle. Fuller earned a Silver Award for its staging of Hoodie.

Walsh Theater Students Stage Holocaust Play for State Drama Festival

Theater students held a dress rehearsal Thursday for its entry in the Massachusetts Middle School Drama Festival.

With a solemn look on her face, the lead actress in a Walsh Middle School play set during the Holocaust looks toward the audience during an aside as she wonders out loud if her family will be taken.  A dress rehearsal of I Never Saw Another Butterfly involving dozens of drama students helped actors, lighting and sound staff prepare their production for its entry in the 2013 Massachusetts Middle School Drama Festival sponsored by the Massachusetts Educational Theatre Guild. Walsh Middle will host a preliminary round of the festival this weekend. All three Framingham Public Middle Schools will have entries in the festival. Walsh and Cameron will compete at Walsh. Walsh Teens Learn 'We Can Make A World Without Hate'

Walsh Middle School teachers and students joined 1,500 others from across New England to build safer school communities at the Anti-Defamation League’s A World Of Difference Institute's 19th Annual Youth Congress Imagine a World Without Hate™.

Teens and teachers from Walsh Middle School attended the Anti-Defamation League’s A World Of Difference® Institute 19th Annual New England Youth Congress in Boston. The event brought together more than 1,500 middle and high school students and teachers from Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont to address issues of prejudice and develop strategies that build safer and more respectful school communities. "It was a great experience to learn about all of the people who paved the way for us to have a better future, said Sophie Meltzer, a grade 7 student. UPDATED: Once Upon A Mattress on Stage At Walsh

Thursday night is opening night for Walsh Middle School's production of Once Upon A Mattress.

The show must go on ... although delayed a bit by the Blizzard of 2013. Thursday night is the new opening night for Walsh Middle School's Dramatic Paws production of Once Upon A Mattress. More than 100 students are involved in the production. The shows had to be rescheduled from early February, due to the Blizzard. FOLLOWUP REPORT: Student, 17, Struck School Bus Thursday

Framingham Police Department said a 17-year old female struck a school bus carrying Walsh Middle students Thursday.

    Framingham Police said a female student, 17, driving a Subaru, struck the school bus carrying more than a dozen Walsh Middle students on Thursday. Framingham Police Lt. Ron Brandolini said the drive of the vehicle drove through a stop sign and struck the bus on the driver's side. Bus #37 needed to be towed from the scene, as the rear tire was flattened and there was damage to the driver's side of the bus, said a spokesperson for the bus company. The driver and her passenger were both taken to MetroWest Medical Center for treatment, said Brandolini. The driver's name was not released. Brandolini said the driver has not been cited, but the investigation is still pending. The crash took place just before 3 p.m. Thursday at the …

$3M Spent Over Summer To Improve Schools; New Windows, Doors Installed at Stapleton

Oscar Corona, an 8th grade student at Walsh Middle School won the Reach for the Stars National Rocket Competition. He was awarded a first place trophy and will launch his rocket at Space Camp at the US Space & Rocket Center in Alabama.

Framingham Public Schools Director of Buildings and Grounds Matt Torti gave the Framingham School Committee and update on projects completed over the summer. Torti said his department spent more than $3 million on projects including repaving sections of driveways and installing new windows and doors at Stapleton Elementary. The only major project not completed before school opened was the replacement of the concrete piers that support the roof over the front area of Cameron Middle School. The work is continuing.
