What's With the Trash Bags on the Signs?

A Framingham Patch reader wanted to know why some signs in town were covered with trash bags.

Framingham Department of Public Works Capital Program Administrator Paul Gianquitti  said the signs are covered for a Massachusetts Department of Transportation project. The project was to have started in May, but was delayed until school got out (today) June 22. "The Fountain Street Bridge will be replaced in it’s entirely. The road will close from June 23 to Sept. 27. The bridge height and alignment will remain the same. Underground utilities including water, sewer force main, and gas that cross the bridge will be replaced. Temporary bypass mains will be used during construction. Traffic signals in the surrounding area will be modified. (Fountain/Waverly, Fountain/Winter, Waverly/Winthrop, Waverly/Winter)  Traffic will be detoured to the…

Is it me, or does it seem like we're doing 25 big projects at once? Whenever I think to avoid one road because of ongoing construction, I drive right into another one. Wouldn't it have been better to stagger the projects a little? And where did the money come from to pay for all this work?   more ›

Fountain Street Bridge Detours Begin Thursday

The Mass DOT project was to have started in May, but was postponed until after school let out.

Motorist should expect detours and delays in South Framingham on Fountain Street and the surrounding roads. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (Mass DOT) is scheduled to close the Fountain Street bridge Thursday, June 23 for more than three months. The bridge over the CMX and MBTA railroads was scheduled to be repaired in May, but Mass DOT agreed to delay the project until the day after Framingham Public Schools closed. the last day of school is tomorrow, June 22.
