My name is Nicole Manseau and I am the new full-day kindergarten teacher at Woodrow Wilson Elementary. I also happen to be one of the three full-day kindergarten teachers who started the year off without an aide. I cannot even begin to tell you what it is like to start off the school year without any help — I spent the majority of my time managing behaviors when I should have been teaching and providing my students with academic opportunities. I have been a library aide/assistant at the Potter Road Elementary School for the past 26 wonderful years This past year has been especially stressful for all of the library assistants. Last June 2010, due to the budget cuts, we were told that the four senior library assistants would service not one but two elementary school libraries come September. Two library assistants were let go and two were cut down to a four day a week position. This meant the remaining assistants have to open not one, but two school libraries, service more than 1,000 students and fill requests for more than 60 staff members, plus a multitude of other tasks.
