Hazardous Weather Outlook: Remnants of Isaac Bring Up to 3 Inches

Localized street flooding may occur, which includes the section of Route 9 which always floods.

A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for Middlesex County, with remnants of Isaac bringing heavy rainful and flooding potential to the area, according to the National Weather Service. Heavy rain and possible flooding is expected into Wednesday, with the latest forecast suggesting the strongest rains across the northern part of the state, where totals of up to four inches are possible. In eastern Massachusetts, including Framingham, 2-3 inches is expected.  Localized street flooding may occur, which includes the section of Route 9 which always floods.

Rain Forecast Causes Flood Alert

The forecast calls for 1 to 3 inches of rain, with locally heavier amounts possible. Flooding of poor drainage areas is possible as well as flooding to small streams and creeks.

The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued a flood watch for Friday evening into Saturday evening for an expansive area of Massachusetts, including Framingham. The National Weather Service reported the watch to be in effect from 8 p.m. today, Sept. 23 until 8 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 24. “A prolonged period of rain with embedded heavier showers and isolated thunderstorms is anticipated,” read a statement from the Weather Service. The forecast calls for 1 to 3 inches of rain, with locally heavier amounts possible. Flooding of poor drainage areas is possible as well as flooding to small streams and creeks. “A flood watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts,” according to the National Weather Service.

Heavy Rains Forecasted; Localized Flooding May Occur

The National Weather Service anticipates heavy rains in Middlesex County starting at 4 a.m. Tuesday morning. The rains are expected to continue through Thursday.

A slow moving cold front will bring periods of heavy rain into Middlesex County, including Framingham. There is a low probability of some localized urban and poor drainage flooding into Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Taunton. The rain is expected to continue through late Thursday afternoon. Hurricane Katia is expected to pass east of Southern New England late in the week. The primary impact will be hazardous rip currents and high surf as it approaches.
