Middlesex DA Shows Solidarity With Slain Prosecutors

Officials in district attorney offices around the country are showing support for slain Texas prosecutors with black ribbons today.

Black ribbons were donned by the staff of Middlesex District Attorney’s Office as they joined prosecutors in Massachusetts and across the country in signifying their solidarity and compassion for prosecutors who have recently been killed in Texas. “Everyday the staff of the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office protects and serves our communities by standing up and speaking for victims without a voice,” said District Attorney Gerry Leone in a press release Thursday. “Prosecutors and all law enforcement in the Commonwealth make our communities safer while at times putting themselves in harms way on behalf of others. Our thoughts today, as we continue to fight for justice, remain with those families who have lost loved ones in these horrible …

High School Assembly: Say No To Violence Against Women

The Middlesex District Attorney, Framingham Police Chief, Framingham High Principal and Superintendent of Schools all urged male high school students to say no to violence against women at a Wednesday morning assembly.

School, police and law enforcement officials all urged Framingham High male students to say no to violence against women during an assembly Wednesday morning. The optional assembly was for male students only. Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone at the end of the assembly asked each student to support the White Ribbon Campaign. Each male high school student, who attended, received a white ribbon pin to wear and made a pledge to never commit violence against a woman. "You are a coward if you put your hands on women," said Leone. The school has joined with the district attorney "to end all violence against women in all forms," said Framingham High Principal Mike Welch. "We can not allow anyone to be a victim," said Framingham Police Chief…

As my son said (senior at the school) Why just the boys, girls need to be educated as well! My son chose not to attend the hypocritical gathering!   more ›

UPDATED: Framingham High Teens Protest Response to Sexual Assaults

The organized protest purposely coincided with an assembly in which teen boys were asked to pledge not to commit violence against women.

Framingham High teens this morning protested against what they say was a lack of response to two sexual assaults at the high school. The teenagers said they are upset by the lack of response by many adults - school, police and the district attorney's office - to two sexual assaults that they and at least one school employee say happened at Framingham High last spring. The assaults were allegedly perpetrated by the same male athlete against two different female students inside the school. "It is time to expose what has been hidden for too long," said senior Jessica Krueger. "I can't allow the school to keep hiding these incidents." Nearly 20 students scheduled their protest at the same time as Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone was …

Isn't the school the place where children learn? Learn that bad behaviour is not tolerated? How could they allow this to happen twice! And the kid was an adult! How is THAT not illegal? How could they want the kid to stay in school? What would they want done if it was their daughter who got molested? What is wrong with people?   more ›

The Middlesex District Attorney's office had a special guest on Thursday. Middlesex DA Gerry Leone welcomed John Kerry, who on Tuesday was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the next Secretary of State. Kerry was a senator for Massachusetts from 1985 until his resignation to take up his new position earlier this week. The stop was part of a tour Kerry is taking around the state as he prepares to take on his new responsibilities. His choice to stop by the Middlesex District Attorney's office was also a chance to catch up on an old place of employment. Middlesex County DA Announces He Won't Seek Third Term

Leone said he has no specific plans after he leaves office.

Middlesex County District Attorney Gerry Leone has announced he will not seek a third term in 2014, according to his office. Leone made the announcement during an awards ceremony with his staff on Jan. 10 “These decisions are, and should be, predicated upon what is best for the person and their family. What is best for me and my family is that I not seek another term. As someone who is much smarter than I am once said, ‘I must be willing to give up what I am, in order to become what I will be.’ Other than a husband and father, I am not yet sure what that will be when I am no longer a district attorney,” Leone said in a statement. Leone said he does not plan to seek another elected office, but has no specific future plans at the moment, …
