  • On the article Framingham Schools to Have 4 Weeks of Vacation in 2013-14

One of the main reasons you don't see the Framingham school systems doing away with April and Feb. vacations and going to a private school calendar of just March spring break is that staff & teachers do not want it.

If they work in Framingham but say live in Sudbury, their kids would still have Feb & April off and Framingham would have March so it would not be convenient for them and thus it is never agreed to during negotiations.

Again, parents were inconvenienced before because teachers & staff wanted Thursday half days and daytime conferences.

And when parents said they wanted Friday early release days and nightime conference, the union agrees to just one night time conference and parents get the added inconvenience of some Fridays to appease them and the teachers get mostly Thursdays again the union wins. Not a parent-friendly calendar but a union happy calendar!!!!!
    When will the kids win???

Watching the videos from inside the assembly now knowing what was going on outside the high school with the protest just turns my stomach. Outside students are protest about a male students who may have sexually assaulted 2 fellow students and inside everyone is saying words they did not enforce!! Shame on all of them!

I want to know why the student was allowed to play football if he was suspended for the assault? Why didn't the student get any punishment for the first assault? Why didn't the police charge this student with a crime? Why didn't the DA pursue charges? Two female students both accused the same male student of assault. You would think police and the DA would see a pattern. What did the school do to make these girls still feel safe in the school as the person who assaulted them continued to walk the hallways. What is the school's policy on sexual assault? I am so angry about this, but agree with many above proud of the students who took a stand this morning. And happy to see one school official willing to go public with these assaults.

Brenda that is nice to hear, but as I wrote above I wish the members of the union would speak up with their real names and call out the very bad actions of their union president and the FTA board, who likely supported him in his actions.

I think the more teachers speak out against this tactic by the union, the more they will regain the support of parents, who are so angry over this.

Nancy addresses what many parents feel. I want to thank her for writing this letter and signing her name.

I have been reluctant to chime in on this issue as I do have children in the Framingham Schools, but Nancy what you wrote is what many of us are thinking.

I do NOT believe that the FTA President is the only one who wrote the email and is the only member of the FTA who thought this 'stress' campaign was a great idea. What they are sorry about is that the Framingham Patch reported on it.

I have been a supporter of the teachers. I still am. I think they deserve a fair contract - just like every other union has now received in town.

What is not fair is this terrible stress campaign by the FTA president (and the FTA board).

I would love to see teachers - using their real names - come out and admit that their president, executive board and union screwed up. You did. Admit it.
I think if a majority of the 1,000 teachers who are in the union did that here, you would earn the support of the parents, who were with you up until this 'stress' campaign!

FPS teachers -- please prove me right that you disagree with your president and FTA board and they you are sorry for their tactics. Post your opinion here and use your real name just like many of us parents are!!

Some of us work a second shift job from 3-11, so we can not attend the meetings at night. I appreciate that I can get answers here on Patch.

115 is a lot of classes over 25 students!! Glad to hear the new superintendent is working on a plan to fix that issue.

When they were talking about re-organizing the schools a few years back, it never addressed the middle school issue or the feeding system, did it?

What plans have been mentioned at meetings on how to fix the middle schools?

The middle schools seem to be sliding backwards and not making progress forward.
