5 Things You Need To Know Today April 2

Both the Framingham School Committee and Framingham Selectmen are scheduled to meet tonight, with their newly-elected and re-elected members.

1. Framingham Selectmen are scheduled to meet tonight, with newly re-elected Laurie Lee and newly elected Selectman Cheryl Tully Stoll at 7 in the Ablondi room at the Memorial Building. Stoll was sworn in Tuesday night.

On the agenda is a report on the water and sewer budget, joint meeting with the Edgell Grove Cemetery Trustees, review of citizens petition articles for the annual Town Meeting, and public hearing to consider the renewal of a wine license for Zoll Vineyards Farmer to provide samples at the Framingham Farmers Market.

2. Framingham School Committee is scheduled to meet tonight with newly-elected School Committee members Jim Stockless and Michelle Brosnahan at 7 in the Kind Administration Building. Stockless, stepped down as a Town Meeting member and was sworn in as a School Committee member Tuesday night.

On the agenda is a election of a new School Committee Chair, discussion of the 2014-14 school year budget, presentation of the School Committee's overarching goals and a presentation on the adult ESL Plus program.

4. Samba West in Framingham will hold a fundraiser tonight to support the families of Lt. Ed Walsh and Boston firefighter Mike Kennedy, who died in a 9-alarm fire on Wednesday.

From 4 to 9 p.m., Samba West will donate 20 percent of all food costs to the fund set up for the families of the two fallen firefighters. Alcohol purchases will not be included in the fundraiser. There will also be a $5 cover charge for admission, and that money will also be donated to the Memorial Fund.

5.  In Case You Missed It:  Governor Deval L. Patrick has ordered that the United States flag and the Commonwealth flag be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings until sunset tomorrow, April 3, 2014, and at all remaining state buildings beginning at sunrise today, April 2, 2014 until sunset tomorrow, April 3, 2014, in honor of Lieutenant Edward J. Walsh, 43, and Firefighter Michael R. Kennedy, 33, of the Boston Fire Department who died in the line of duty on March 26, 2014.

Funeral for  Lt. Walsh will be held at St. Patrick’s Church, located at 212 Main St. in Watertown, at 10:30 a.m. today. Members of the Framingham Fire Department is expected to be in attendance.

Firefighter Kennedy’s wake will be held today at the P.E. Murray Funeral Home, 2000 Centre St. in West Roxbury, from 2:30 to 8 p.m. General public viewing hours for Kennedy’s wake will be from 4 to 8 p.m. His funeral Mass is tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Name, 1689 Centre St., West Roxbury.
