Campaign to Help Dunning Elementary Second Grader Diagnosed With Leukemia

A week ago today, a Framingham family learned their oldest daughter Emma, 7, was diagnosed with leukemia.

A week ago today, a Framingham family received devastating news. The Tierney family was told their daughter Emma, 7, was diagnosed with leukemia.

Emma, a second grade student at Dunning Elementary School, had to start treatment immediately, meaning she'll be spending the next six weeks at Boston Children's Hospital.

Mom Jessica and dad Tom will need to make weekly trips to the hospital for the next two years so Emma can fight this disease.

Although her treatment is covered by insurance, the family faces a number of expenses over the next two years, including co-payments, parking costs in Boston and the need to find occasional childcare for Emma's younger sister Addie, 4.

Emma's dad Tom Tierney is a lieutenant with the Somerville Fire Department. His fellow firefighters started a fundraising website, with the goal of raising $20,000 to help the family. In two days, more than 255 people had donated and raised more than $14,500.

If you're interested in helping out the family, visit Emma's page at GoFundMe.com.
