SLIDESHOW: Kennedy Health Center Showcases Original Art

The Kennedy Community Health Center celebrated National Health Center Week with a reception Wednesday night showcasing original art work donated to the health center.

The Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center unveiled a permanent collection of original art work donated by the Boston-based non-profit, the Art Connection, at a reception Wednesday night at the Waverley Street clinic.

Some of the artists joined local officials, patients and staff at the reception in honor of National Community Health Center Week.

“We wanted to celebrate our enhanced capacity to serve hundreds of new patients since our larger renovated facility opened in October” said Kennedy Community Health Center President and CEO Antonia ‘Toni’ McGuire.
“Our medical team and support staff are privileged to serve thousands of patients who come to our health center each year seeking high quality, affordable health care.  This beautiful artwork is a perfect compliment to our goal of promoting overall health and wellness, not just treating illness. We wanted to create an environment that is inspirational, respectful, and comforting.

“I have worked with the Art Connection before and it was a wonderful experience,” McGuire said. “To be surrounded by these incredibly beautiful works of art is quite inspirational for our patients and our staff. I can’t thank the organization and these generous artists enough for donating their work to the Kennedy Community Health Center.”

The mission of the Art Connection is to enrich and empower underserved communities by expanding access to original works of visual art. Since 1995, the organization has identified and catalogued original works of art donated by generous individuals and has supported local social service agencies in the
selection of pieces that are meaningful to them.

The office of State Senator Karen Spilka (D-Framingham) presented a resolution signed by the Framingham legislative delegation honoring the work of the Kennedy Community Health Center medical team and support staff.

“The people of Framingham and the surrounding communities rely so much on these dedicated health care professionals and the high quality, compassionate health care they provide,” Spilka said in a press release. “These beautiful new works of art will further enhance the positive experience of patients and families who come to the Kennedy Community Health Center each day.”

Special thanks to Kevin Cummings of Cummings Photography in Framingham, who photographed the reception Wednesday night for Framingham Patch.
