UPDATED: Fifth Congressional Race Narrowed to Two
Voters made a Republican and Democratic selection for the seat left vacant by Ed Markey earlier this year.

The results are in, and the race for the 5th Congressional District race is now down to two.
According to the Associated Press, Katherine Clark pulled away in a close race in the Democratic primary election on Tuesday while Frank Addivinola earned a lopsided victory on the Republican side of the ballot.

The Associated Press called the race for Addivinola by about 9 p.m., as he topped the ticket with nearly 50 percent of the votes. Mike Stopa and Tom Tierney fell short in the Republican race, each managing about 26 percent of the total.
It took until about 9:30 p.m. for the Demoratic race to be called for Clark. The Melrose resident edged Peter Koutoujian as she earned about 30 percent of the Democratic votes. Karen Spilka, Carl Sciortino, and Will Brownsberger were next with about 15 percent each, according to the Associated Press.

When the Associated Press called the primary for Clark and Addivinola, 201 of 243 precincts had reported.
The 5th Congressional seat has been vacant since Democrat Ed Markey won an election to the United States Senate. Election Day is slated for Dec. 10 between Clark and Addivinola.
