Remy Indicted for Murder of Framingham State Student

A Middlesex Grand Jury indicted Jared Remy, 35, of Woburn, for the death of Jennifer Martel, 27, of Waltham Tuesday said Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.

A Middlesex Grand Jury indicted Jared Remy, 35, of Woburn, for the death of Jennifer Martel, 27, of Waltham Tuesday said Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.

Remy has been charged with murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and violating a restraining order. He will be arraigned October 8, 2013 at 11 a.m. in Middlesex Superior Court inWoburn.

On August 13, Remy is alleged to have committed assault and battery upon Martel, his girlfriend, by pushing her.  Following his arrest that evening, Martel obtained an emergency temporary restraining order.

On August 15, Waltham Police responded to Stearns Hill Road for a report of a stabbing.  Upon arrival, police discovered Martel evidencing multiple stab wounds. The defendant is accused of stabbing Martel, who was later pronounced dead.  He was arrested on scene. Remy was arraigned August 16, 2013 in Waltham District Court and was held without bail.

Martel worked as an assistant front end manager at Market Basket in Burlington.

She was working toward becoming an elementary school teacher at Framingham State University. 

The case is being investigated by the Waltham Police and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.  The prosecutors assigned to the case are Assistant District Attorneys Lisa McGovern and Michael Kaneb.
