Spring has sprung!

Well, it's not here yet, but there are definite signs of spring. Note the rhubarb!

I put pea seeds in the ground today, and I couldn't be happier.

Interestingly enough, I have noticed something. The beds (all comparable) which had a layer of mulch on them are still frozen solid. The raised beds which DIDN'T have the mulch on them were all ready to be planted. Seriously!

Meanwhile...in the greenhouses, everything but the beets and peas have sprouted. I planted more peas and beets today, outside. I'm an optimist.

Inside I have peppers and eggplants in the seed beds along with the brassicas, which have all sprouted.

The other thing I did today was I fertilized the asparagus beds. Asparagus might seem like a pain in the butt, but once it gets established it's an easy thing to grow. This time of year is really the only time you have to pay attention to it...I cleaned away the old growth from last year, put down a slow release fertilizer, and forked up the soil to work in the fertilizer and loosen the soil. The beds look great!

If anyone needs encouragement to start asparagus, feel free to contact me!
