Walsh's Once On This Island Wins State Theatre Award

During the awards show in Boston, Walsh students Melina List, Hannah Wade and Chad Douty performed Mama Will Provide as the final number of the evening on the stage of the Cutler Majestic Theatre.

Walsh Middle School's production of Once on This Island won a state award for best dance ensemble at Massachusetts Educational Theater Musical awards ceremony at the Majestic Theatre in Boston Monday night, June 9.

Walsh eighth grade student Hannah Wade also won for won for Best Actress in a musical.

This is the "second year in a row that a Walsh student has one in that category. Last year Jordana Kagan won for Once Upon A Mattress," said Sheron Doucette, the musical's director, producer and theatre club's adviser.

Walsh Middle was nominated for a total of 5 awards. Walsh was the only Framingham school with nominations.

"The whole night was an incredible celebration of musical theatre across Massachusetts. Students were standing and cheering each other on regardless of their school affiliation," she said.

There were 63 participating companies and 308 actors nominated. Of those nominated 95 were named finalists in the middle and high school levels.
