Cruzeiro midfielder Johnath Marlone scored three goals in the Brazilian team's 5-1 victory over Miami-Dade Sunday afternoon at Bowditch Field in Framingham.

This was the first of five matches by Cruzeiro in America.

Cruzeiro is one of Brazil's most accomplished soccer clubs, founded in 1921. The club typically plays in the Campeonato Mineiro, of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, and the Brasileirão, the top tier of the Brazilian league. Cruzeiro last won the Brazilian and Mineiro championships in 2013.

Early in the match Júlio Baptista scored on a header. Rookie Manoel scored next, before Marlone, 22, scored his three goals.

Miami-Dade's lone goal was by Diego Urtado.

Can you estimate the attendance? Very steep ticket price and no tix sold at door kept casual fans away.

Keep in mind Cruzeiro is one of the bigger draws in Brazil and this would be comparable if the Patriots played at Bowditch or the Bruins played at Loring Arena. Fans in Brazil - if they went to a match in Brazil - could never be this close to the players and in such an intimate setting. Ticket prices were set by the promoter and NOT the Town of Framingham. The soccer match was set at a capacity of 4,500 tickets and they sold about 3,500 tickets for Sunday. Bowditch is general admission and can hold about 5,000 maximum.

I get the draw and why it was played here. That's a fair amount of people at that price. Good for the promoter to know the market.
